For Valentine’s Day, med school gave me my last biochem exam. But just to make it clear that medicine and I are officially in a long term relationship, in a gesture to extend this lovely holiday, med school also threw in the biochem NBME that’s 10% of my grade. Tomorrow. So, that’s nice. I also have the ultimate birthday fail on the horizon.
Whatever you do to your future children, DO NOT BIRTH THEM MID-FEBRUARY. They will always have midterms in college and not be able to celebrate their 21st birthday. Or any birthday in college. Or in med school, apparently. It’s even on a Saturday this year. I had such high expectations till I got my exam schedule.
I’m making a big deal out of this, but I really can’t complain. The boyfriend actually listens when I babble and bought me a real teapot for my birthday! Don’t laugh. I’ve genuinely wanted a real tea set for a long time (I only drink tea, which in no way shape or form takes advantage of the fact that I’m dating a Colombian and have the best coffee at my fingertips- I just hate the stuff).
And my dad bought me posters of one of my favorite artists, Botello. The plan is to frame them and pretend they’re real. Mwahaha. (Photos will be provided once they are framed.)
I’m also still really happy about the puppies. But I have to resist the temptation to run out and buy a golden retriever. Med school, and living at the top of an apartment building, are not conducive to puppies.

Ahhh! I just wrote my first ever NBME exam today and I wanted to die!!! (Since I go to a Canadian medical school, they are not part of our required curriculum. However, my school has just decided to buy the use of 5 exams for our clerkship…. starting this year.) I am sorry that you have to write so many exams around your birthday. It might pale in comparison, but I have a July birthday and everyone was always on summer holidays for my parties!
